Individual & Small Group Development

Hockey Southland offers Individual & Small Group Development Sessions to support players who want additional, targeted skill development alongside their school and club hockey.

These sessions are designed to supplement existing training environments, providing players with focused coaching, increased ball contact, and opportunities to develop specific skills in an individual or small group setting.


Who These Sessions Are For

These sessions are suitable for:

  • School Year 5-13 players
  • Players seeking extra technical or tactical development
  • Players wanting position or skill specific coaching


Session Formats

Small Group Development Sessions

  • 2-4 players per session
  • 60 minutes
  • Focused on specific skills or positions (e.g. defenders, midfield decision-making, finishing, pressing, etc.)

Individual Development Sessions

  • 1 player per session
  • 60 minutes
  • Designed for specific development needs or individual focus areas


What a Session Looks Like

Each session typically includes:

  • Dynamic warm up with ball
  • Skill breakdown and technical coaching
  • Decision making and pressure based drills
  • Game like or conditioned scenarios
  • Key take home focus points for training and matches

Sessions are planned to ensure high engagement, quality feedback, and appropriate training load.

All sessions are delivered at Invercargill ILT Turfs


Cost

Small Group Sessions

  • $30 per player
  • 60-minute session (2-4 players)

Individual Sessions

  • $50 per session
  • 60-minute session

Block bookings may be available.
All payments are processed through Hockey Southland.


Booking Information

  • Sessions run by appointment
  • Numbers are capped to ensure quality coaching


Our Development Principles

  • Sessions complement, not replace, school and club training
  • Player welfare and workload are considered


Coach Accreditation & Experience

All sessions are delivered by Hockey Southland approved coaches.
Delivery is supported by a coach holding:

  • FIH Level 2 Coaching Qualification
  • National Senior and age group rep coaching experience
