Here is a run down on the wonderful coaches you will get to work with:

Matt Ling

Matt has a huge knowledge base within Hockey and has much to offer through both playing and coaching experience. Matt is the Co-Director of Fetch Hockey, Christchurch’s most popular pre-season program, with memberships reaching a record 490 participants last season including 11 members making Blacksticks teams/ squads. Matt has worked as a coach for over 15 years both domestically and internationally in Germany, Malaysia and Scotland. He is the junior hockey co-ordinator at Harewood Hockey Club. Matt has a very high knowledge base and has thousands of hours of private and small group coaching experience. Last seasons was a clean sweep for Matt’s Villa Maria 1st XI team, taking out the Christchurch Secondary Schools competition, Porritt Cup, The Pat Barwick Shield and Federation Cup. Matt also took on the Harewood Premier Men as player/ coach this season that saw the team take a clean sweep of the men’s competition winning the, South Island Super 6 Tournament, Challenge Shield, Presidents Shield and the Premier men’s final.  Alongside coaching Matt has also been a member of Harewood’s Premier Men’s side for over 10 years as well as making NZ age group teams from U18s through to NZ Blacksticks squad.

Atamira De Goldi

Ata is an experienced representative hockey coach in Canterbury, taking charge of the various Canterbury U15 and U18 teams over the last 6 years. Ata has worked for the past two seasons as the HSOB Hockey Club Junior co-ordinator, developing both players and coaches within the club. Ata’s main focus in coaching surrounds development. In 2015 Ata was awarded Canterbury Associations, Tony Hayde Trophy for coach of the year as well as Sport Canterbury’s Hockey Coach of the year. Last season Ata was  head coach of the Canterbury U13 Development program, alongside HSOB Division 2 Women, Villa Maria 2nd XI, HSOB U13 Development team, Fetch Hockey coach and U18 Regional Women. This season Ata continued her work as Division 2 coach of HSOB-Burnside Women's team, which  placed  2nd in the local competition with 10 of the 16 members making this year's U15 A/ B teams as well as U18 A team. Alongside this Ata assistant coached the U18 Regional Women’s team that placed 2nd at tournament.

Alex Feustel

Alex is a new addition to the Sporting Edge coaching lineup and we are very excited to have someone of his calibre come on board with us. Alex has come from Germany to work for Sporting Edge as a fulltime coach, he has numerous coaching achievements and as well as current coach (from 2013) of  the men in SW Köln in the Bundesliga League he is has also worked for the DHB from 2000 until now as the examiner/ coach teaching other coaches for all kinds of coaching certificates and degrees. He has participated and completed over 5 FIH coaching courses (including both indoor and outdoor hockey coaching). From 2009 to 2013 Alex worked for the German Olympic Organisation as an individual coach and was responsible for young and adult national player development. From 2009 to 2012 he worked as the Assistant coach for the German Women’s team where he attended the World Cup in Argentina (4th placing), Euro 2011 (2nd), and the London Olympics in 2012 (7th), during this time and from 2004 to 2014 he was the regional coach of NRW (head coach from 2007) where he coached the U14 and U16 Boys to some title wins. Alongside this Alex also coached the following German age group teams between 2004 and 2014, this included the U21 men and women, U18 men and women and the U16 boys and girls team, these teams competed at various tournaments including the 4-Nations, 6-Nations, his role within these teams included either Head coach or Assistant coach. Alex has a lot of knowledge and experience to add to the Sporting Edge team, we are very excited to be able to offer his skills to up and coming players/ coaches.
