Lightning KIWI Sticks Competition Information 

Who is this for?

Year 5&6 Players ONLY

 

What is it about?

Making new friends from other schools, improving hockey skills and having FUN

 

When is it run?

Sunday mornings from 9am starting with the Invercargill open day on 22nd May and finishing with the Eastern vs. Invercargill tournament on Sunday 3rd July.

 

What do the sessions consist of?

The players will be on the field for an hour which will consists of 20 minutes skills with the coach and then play a game against another team for 2 halves of 18 minutes.

 

Is there a cost?

Yes there is a cost; this is to cover turf fees. The cost per player if registered and playing for a school team is $20 non refundable, which includes the open day and all competition days (6 weeks total) If your son or daughter does not play for school hockey team the cost is $35 which includes the affiliation fee to Hockey New Zealand , and turf fees. This is also a non-refundable payment.

 

When does this need to be paid?

The money is to be paid in full upon registering ONLINE

The online registration form is accessed through the Hockey Southland Website and all players need to register online prior to the open day (www.hockeysouthland.co.nz

Does it only run for term 2?

Yes, this is only a one term competition

 

What team will my son or daughter be in?

Once you have registered online the competition coordinator will assign registered players to teams matching up players from same schools to a degree so your son or daughter should know at least a few people. At the open day the team lists will be up and the players will go out with their coaches and have an introductory session. The reason for the mixing up of players is to help players of the same ability to play together and make new friends.

 

If my son or daughter pulls out do we get a refund?

Unfortunately as this competition is subsidised the $20 per player is non refundable

 

Will the times change each week?

Depending on the number of teams will depend on the time slots. At this stage the time slots will be from 9am -10am or 10am -11am. Each team will be advised the draw at the open day which starts for all players at 9am 22nd May.

 

What size field will it be on?

Same as a Wednesday night school Hockey, 6 a side ½ field.
